Who is this strange purple alien? Has Gonzo the Great gotten fat? Has one of the Ninja Turtles been eating too much beetroot? Why, no! This crazy character is set to revolutionise the way kids learn music. He's the music teacher from the Musiah computer program. I've just been hired to be the ambassador for this great program that teaches kids (and adults, if they're interested) about music theory, note-reading, and how to play piano. It's as entertaining as a computer game, but it provides fantastic information at the same time. It's a fun experience and a great way to learn. The Musiah teacher takes each student through the basics of music making (from as basic as how to find middle C on the piano) right up to some quite advanced concepts. I'll let you know more about Musiah when it is officially launched, but for now it's still in Beta testing mode - which is great, because it means they're letting you try it for a few months for free. (After June 17, fees will apply). Check it out here!

Dust off your shoulder pads and break out the hair-brush microphone: Young Talent Time is back! I'm thrilled to be part of the team that is bringing this feel-good talent show back to Australian television. YTT became a TV icon in the 70s and 80s, and the time is right to bring this great programme back. The thing I love about YTT is that it's all positive. The core team members (who are ten very talented entertainers) do not get voted off each week. There's no dramatic "tonight, you're going home" moment. And the weekly talent quest contestants are given positive encouragement. So join us for Young Talent Time, 6:30 Sunday on Ten.

Just a few more sleeps now! Santa has booked his express sled, Marina's got the hair in rollers and I've polished the baton for the "loveliest night of the year" (to borrow a quote from Ray Martin). Rehearsals are well underway for another wonderful Carols by Candlelight. Watch out for a beautiful carol from Ricki-Lee, a big moment from David Hobson, a popular classic from Marina Prior, a jazzy moment from James Morrison, and an original song from Silvie Paladino that will echo around the Bowl. The orchestra is tuning now!

Enjoy - and have a wonderful Christmas. And happy Hanukkah!

The ears of 30,000 mums, dads, brothers, sisters, aunties, uncles and friends are still ringing after the screaming applause that rang through the Sydney Entertainment Centre at this year's School Spectacular. Congratulations to all of the sensational performers in this year's show. Once again, Steve Williams and his Spectacular Orchestra performed superbly, as did the soloists, dancers and choir. Squeezing 3,500 performers onto one stage is no mean feat - but our brilliant stage crew somehow managed to get them there. The School Spectacular has been described as "the world's biggest classroom" - it is a brilliant showcase for public education, and solid reassurance that our future is in very good hands.

Congratulations to Silvie Paladino on the release of her new album. After many years of planning, months of song selection and many hours in the studio, Silvie's new album, "On My Own" is now available in stores and online. Silvie is one of Australia's best singers, and I know that her fans will be thrilled with this recording, which also features the very talented members of the Melbourne Youth Orchestra, and special guest Doug Parkinson.
