Goodbye, Hamer Hall PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Hamer-Hall-Audience-CentreIt was a night to remember: after twenty-eight years, and over five thousand six hundred performances, and after having provided the space for the entertainment of more than eleven million audience members, Hamer Hall is to close its doors for extensive renovations. The concert to mark the end of this remarkable era was an emotion-packed event.

From Silvie Paladino's opening song, "Once voice, singing in the darkness..." (literally) to the finale of "Time To Say Goodbye", featuring David Hobson, Rachael Beck, Ian Stenlake and Silvie, it was a real thrill for me to be part of this great night, which was put together by Mark Gogoll.

Thanks to the Melbourne Youth Orchestra for their superb playing; thanks also to Julie Raines, Craig Newman, Gary Norman and Ron Sandilands (who actually played at the very first concert - a special concert for the workers - at the then Melbourne Concert Hall).

During the show I paused to take three pictures of the current Hamer Hall's final audience. The view from the stage will never be the same again. This post features the centre picture of the three - I'll stick all three together and post them in the gallery section here - and I'll also put them on Facebook.
