Great news - The Boy From Oz, starring Todd McKenney, will be returning to Sydney. After a successful season staged earlier this year in Melbourne, the show is returning to Melbourne in January, and then travels to Sydney in March.
It's an emotional journey, featuring Peter Allen's wonderful songs, some great costumes and fantastic dancing, and our band will be live on-stage, re-recreating the atmosphere of a Peter Allen concert. We'll be playing at The Capitol Theatre in Sydney.
It's very exciting to be working at the Capitol. Until recently, I had only ever attended the theatre as an audience member, but at the Sydney launch for The Boy From Oz, I had a chance to look around this great old place. In fact, it was once a circus venue - complete with a swimming pool for performing seals - and it has now been restored and modified to accommodate today's mega-musicals. Interestingly, the old swimming pool has now been converted into the orchestra's "chill-out" room. I wonder who came up with the idea of putting the band members in the space that was once occupied by performing seals! It's a great room, and a wonderful show - and I can't wait for this season to commence.
